Will and Testament of John Rake, Sr.
1805, April 24, Rake, John Sr., of Amwell Twsp., Hunterdon Co.; will of.
Wife Else $266.67, her choice of household furniture,
use of present dwelling house, one horse, 2 cows, 6 sheep and one hog; also use
of my lands, during her widowhood; should she marry again, she has to refund
the said money and goods and abandon the said privileges.
Son, Franklin, $133.33, for his schooling.
Son Phillip, $40, for his schooling.
Grandsons, Jacob Rake and Jonathan Rake (sons of son William), each $10.
Grandsons, Samuel and Amos (sons of son Solomon),
each $10, with interest, when age 21.
After wife’s deceased of marriage,
estate to be sold an proceeds divided among my children, i.e., John, Henry,
William, Solomon, Jacob, Philip, Franklin and Elizabeth Rake.
Sons, John and Henry, may continue where they now live.
Executors – sons and friends, Jacob Rake and Philip Rake.
Witnesses – Philip Bevin, George Trout Jr., John Trout.

To the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of
the County of Hunterdon, in the State of New Jersey:
I, Peter Fisher, one of the Justices of the Peace in and for
said County – do hereby Certify that on the fourth day of December 1816 in said
County I married William Swallow
to Elsa
Rake, both of Amwell in said
County and them did pronounce man and wife, agreeably to the laws of the State.
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand the day and year above written.
