Francis Vandervoort - was born on 5 Dec 1763 in New York and died in 1836 and was buried in Hogle Pioneer Cemetery, Sidney Twp, Hastings, Ontario . Francis married Hanna Acker on 8 Nov 1784 in Duchess co, New York. Hanna was born in 1765. She died in 1850 and was buried in Hogle Pioneer Cemetery, Sidney Twp, Hastings, Ontario . Francis - (from Pioneer Life of the Bay of Quinte - p 835)   was a native of Duchess County, NY, and a weaver by trade. By 1802 he and Hanna had 7 children. They realized that their children would have a better chance a acquire homes for themselves in the new province of Upper Canada and resolved to emigrate. With their children and all their worldly effects they followed the Mohawk river as far as they could in a small open boat.   They paddled away from the land of their birth to a destination unknown from them. Following the usual route, hauling their boat between water stretches and sleeping under it when overtaken by night, they reached in safety the shore of Lake Ontario at the mouth of the Oswego River. Easily making their way from there, they crossed to the Canadian shore. Then they proceeded up the Bay of Quinte until they landed at White's Creek. There they remained a few years, but settled in lot 17 in the 2nd concession of Sidney. As by the time the Vandervoorts arrives, earlier settlers on the Front had made a good beginning, and the weaver pioneer was able to ply his trade from the start, which was an advantage his neighbors had not enjoyed. James Vandervoort - was born on 13 Sep 1787 in Sidney Twp., Hastings, Ontario - Canada and died in 1877 . He was the son of Francis Vandervoort and Hanna Acker. James married Mary W. On transcribed LDS census online, also in his home is 25 year old "Etty Hacoley" who was actually his wife's sister either Harriet or Henrietta (my bet would be the latter) surname HAWLEY. William Lyon's wife was Mary Hawley- death info for her states born July 13, 1843 at Napanee, Ontario; died January 7, 1925 @ Trenton, Hastings County, Ont., a widow. She was the daughter of Charles Hawley and Jane Vandevoort. Joseph Aikens Vandervoort - was born on 1 Jul 1829 in Sidney Twp, Hastings, Ontario, Canada and died on 16 Jul 1887 in Elmwood, Peoria,Ill and was buried in Elmwood, Peoria,Ill . He was the son of George Vandervoort and Catherine Hogle. Joseph married Eleanor Eliza Jones on 6 Nov 1849 in Hastings Co., Ontario. Eleanor was born on 30 Mar 1829 in Elery Twp, Chataqua Co., NY. She was the daughter of Miles Jones Jr. and Pamela Ketchum Turner. She died on 28 Apr 1910 in Peoria, Ill . Eleanor - Mrs. J. A. Vandervoort   Mrs. J. A. Vandervoort, for many years a resident of Elmwood, and later or Peoria, died Thursday, April twenty-eight as a result of an accident in which she sustained a broken hip. Mrs. Vandervoort had been spending the winter in Chicago with her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Wiley and it was in her home that the accident occured. Owing to her age and feebleness the shock of the fall was more than her strength could endure. The funeral services were held in Peoria last Saturday afternoon, and Mrs. Vandervoort's body was brought to Elmwood for burial. The following is a brief sketch of her life.   Eleanor E. Jones was born March 30th, 1829 in Chautauqua county, New York. When she was a small child her parents moved to Canada, where, in 1849 she was married to Joseph A. Vandervoort. In 1859 they moved to Illinois settling in Elmwood. In 1893 she went to Peoria with Dr. and Mrs. Sloan with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband in 1887.   In Canada, Mrs. Vandervoort was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, but after coming to Elmwood, she united with the Congreataional Church of this town and later with the First Congretaional Church of Peoria.   She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E. C. Wiley of Chicago and Mrs. W. T. Sloan of Peoria and Mr. W. M. Vandervoort of Chicago. Two sons died in infancy. Two sisters, Mrs James Venn and Mrs William Douglas and one brother Mr. Darius Jones are still living. Mrs Vandervoort was eighty-one years of age. Joseph - Census: 1860 Elmwood, Peoria Co. Benjamin H Vandervoort - was born about 1830 in Ontario, Canada. He is the son of George Vandervoort and Catherine Hogle. Benjamin married Charity Ann Outwater about 1853. Charity was born in 1831. She is the daughter of Joeph Outwater and Rosanah RIley. (Sources: - 9) Benjamin - married Charity Ann Outwaters b. abt 1830. Living with in-laws in Sidney Towenship, Hastings, Ontario in 1851.   William Henry Douglass visited Benny Vandervoort and his son Elgin Vandervoort in 1874.   Of the children of Capitain Benjamin H.Vandervoort, of the George Vandervoort branch of the family, it may be stated that all of them, except Elgin, resided in Toronto. Willis is manager of the chemical and drug department of Lyman Brothers, wholesale druggists, on Front Street. Morley is a barrister-at-law at 158 Bay Street, and the remaining members of the family reside at 215 Jarvis Street. Dr. Wlgin Vanvdervoort was bron in Rawdon township, county of Hastings, in 1853. He is a graduate of Toronto University with the degree of M.D., and is a member of the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons. Clement (Nov 2007)   I have printed your geneology, because my great grandfather and his siblings are part of it. I saw a photo of Dr. Elgin van der Voort (this is the way my grandfather always spelled it) and he's blonde. His wife, Henrietta, is said to be related to the opera singer Beverly Sills.   Elgin and Henrietta had one child, May. May married Douglas Rothwell, and had one daughter, Marian. Marian married Ron Calder, and had Elgin's great grandchildren, Douglas and Suzanne Calder.   Ben's daughter Carrie had Edna and Elfrida (Elfie). Elfrida's painting-work was seen on the American Antiques Roadshow. Both sisters had been in Muskoka, visiting their cousin, Reay. Elfie gave me a necklace of daisy beads. Morley Penshaw van der Voort married Hermenia Walker, and had Morley Carmen ("Hap", because he was always cheerful) and Reay Curtis. Hermenia died, and Morley married Lillis Sleeth, and they had Marshall, who still lives. He must be in his eighties, now.   Carmen ("Hap") married Irene, and they had Michael, who with Wendy, have three children and a crew of grandchildren. Reay Curtis married Tillie Cleminshaw, and they had two girls, Joan Beatrice and Alice Evelyn van der Voort. Joan has Ruth, Lois, Phyllis, Aura, Becky, John, and Lloyd. Lyn (Alice E.) had Doug, Brenda and Barb. Doug died young. Brenda and Barb live in Florida. Barb is a grandmother.   I am Lois, of Joan, Reay, and Morley P. Aunt Lyn's kids are both younger than I am. Thought you might like to know that Elgin and Morley each have an existing set of descendants. ii.  George Lyman Vandervoort died in 1860 . iii.  Joseph Willis Vandervoort was born in 1863. Bertha Ameila Vandervoort - was born on 1 Sep 1856 in Sidney Twp, Hastings, Ontario, Canada and died on 2 Sep 1933 in Brazil, Clay, IN and was buried in Peoria Co., IL . She was the daughter of Joseph Aikens Vandervoort and Eleanor Eliza Jones. Bertha married William Thompson Sloan on 1 Sep 1875 in Elmwood, Ill. William was born on 28 Sep 1849 in Clarion Co., Pa. He was the son of John J, Sloan. He died in 1929 . William - Sloan, W. T., M.D., druggist.   The subject of this sketch is the son of John and Sebina Sloan, who were natives of Pennsylvania. His father died in 1855, and his mother - now Mrs. Johnson - is a resident of McClean Co, Ill.   He commenced the study of medicine under Dr. W. A. Baker of Reidsville, Pa. in 1868. In 1870 he attended lectures at the medical colege of Cleveland, O., and during the years of 1871 and 1872, practiced medicine in Jefferson Co., Pa.   He attended lectures at Bellevue Medical College, New York city , in 1873, and in the Spring of the following year graduated and moved to Elmwood, Peoria Co., where he has since resided and priacticed.   He has acquired a good share of medical practice of the town and surrounding country, and in 1879 added the business of drugguist and apothecary,   He married Miss Bertha Vandervoort, who was born in Canada in 1857, and by whiom he has one child, Eleanor, born in Jine 1877.   (The History of Peoria County, Illinois) Peoria, city and county, Illinois   In 1876, Dr. Sloan was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Vandervoort, of Elmwood, a daughter of J. A. Vandervoort and they are the parents of three children, of who two are living, John and Helen, the latter the wife of James C. McRae of Indianapolis. Their daughter Eleanor, the wife of S. M. Russell superintendent of the Toledo, Peoria and Western Railroad, died in 1908.   This two page article on pages 99 and 100 includes a photograph of Dr. Sloan. Joseph Willis Vandervoort - was born in 1863. He is the son of Benjamin H Vandervoort and Charity Ann Outwater. Joseph married Amelia Edna Griffith. Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  Stanleyn Willis Vandervoort was born on 6 Sep 1891 in Toranto, Ontario and died on 25 May 1917 and was buried in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery, France . Stanleyn - Stanleyn Willis Vandervoort, born in Toronto, Ontario, on 6 September 1891, only son of Joseph Willis Vandervoort and Amelia Edna Vandervoort, He enrolled in the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles on 13 November 1915. Helen married James Craig McCrea on 3 Oct 1911. James was born in 1881/1882 in Indiana. James - owned a sheet metal company in Miami Fla in 1930. Helen - 4 children. Children: i.  William Sloan McCrea was born on 11 Mar 1913 in Illinois. ii.  Elenor Kathryn McCrea was born on 24 Aug 1914 in Illinois. iii.  James C McCrea was born in 1920/1921 in Illinois. iv.  John T.
