James Torrey - was born before 1640 in Scituate, Mass. and died in 1665 in Scituate, Mass. . James married Anne Hatch on 2 Nov 1643 in Scituate, MA. Anne was born before 3 Dec 1626 in Wye, Kent, England. She is the daughter of Elder William Hatch and Jane Young. James - purchased a lot in Scituate in 1643. His house stood 10 rods south of the gate that leads to Hobart's Landing. The freemen also granted him a considerable tract of land south-west of his house lot.   He was a man of great usefulness and respectability. He was a clothier. Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  James Torrey Jr. was born in 1644 in Scituate, Mass.. James - succeeded to his father's residence and to his father's usefulness. Dea. James married Lydia Wills in 1666. She died and he married Elizabeth Rawlins in 1679. They had 11 children. Then he married Enuice, the widow of Jonas Deane in 1701 and they had one daughter. ii.  William Torrey was born in 1646 in Scituate, Mass.. William - removed to Plymouth, Mass. iii.  Joseph Torrey was born in 1649 in Scituate, Mass.. iv.  Damaris Torrey was born in 1651 in Scituate, Mass.. v.  Jonathan Torrey was born in 1654 in Scituate, Mass.. vi.  Mary Torrey was born in 1656 in Scituate, Mass.. vii.  Josiah Torrey was born in 1658 in Scituate, Mass. and died in 1693 in Scituate, Mass. . Josiah - had a considerable tract of land contiguous to the Herring brook hill on the north of Scituate. When he was in the act of drying the town's stock of powder on the roof of his house, a spark flew from the chimney. He died and the house was laid to ruins.   He married Isabel, the widow of Samuel Witherell in 1684 and had 6 children. viii.  Sarah Torey was born in 1660 in Sciatuate, Mass.. ix.  Bethia Torrey was born in 1665 in Scituate, Mass..
