Christina Schaeurmann - was born in 1845 in Ger and died in Peoria, Peoria Co., Il . She was the daughter of Johan Georg Schaeurmann and Barbara Steiner. Christina married George Adam Schmidgall on 4 Feb 1868 in Busch, Germany. George was born on 17 Aug 1842 in Kuhof, Germany. He was the son of Phillip Schmidgall. He died on 3 Mar 1872 in Weilderstadt, Germany . George - From: Anton M. Seger - Wed, 20 Nov 2002   I have a church record from kuhof, near maienfels Georg Adam Schmidtgall, born August 17 1842 in Kuhof, died march 3 1872 in Weilderstadt, married a Christine Dorothea Scheuermann, born may (march) 19 1845 in Busch. the wedding was February 4 1868. They had a sonAdam Carl Schmidtgall born November 21, 1868 parents of Georg Adam: Schmidtgall Phillip from Busch and Schmidtgall Justina   parents of Christine: Scheuermann Johann Georg and Steiner Barbara   The church record has a statement that Christine moved with son to Edelfingen August 23 1881. At least the record is striked out with the remark "nach Amerika", that means to the states. remarks: in some church records they used Schmidtgall instead of Schmidgall. Edelfingen could be a german village near Bad Mergentheim, no too far from Kuhof (Sources: - 1)   Then Christina married Henry Schelling in Peoria, Peoria Co., Il. Henry was born on 9 Oct 1835 in Neckarbischafsheim, Grosshersogturn, Baden, Ger.. He died in 1904 in Peoria, Peoria Co., Il . Henry - "Henry Schelling was born October 9, 1935 in Neckarbischeim in Grosshersogturn, Baden. Heilbron Heidelburg along the Necar River. He came to America and settled in the Lancaster, PA area. "Henry was a soldier in the Civil War. He was paid by a dragtee to take his place. This was a common practice at that time. He worked as a wheel-wright. After his release from the Civil War he returned to Lancaster, PA. "In Laancaster, Henry met Emma Havercamp from the Kingdom of Holland where she was born March 8, 1841. They soon married and had three sons, Heinrick Herman, born May 20 1869 in Lancaster, and died June 3 1869, also in Lancaster The family then left Pennsylvania and moved to Peoria, IL. "Frederick Wilhelm was born January 23, 1876 in Peoria. On December 8, 1880 another son, Emil, was born. "Heinrick's wife Emma died March 15, 1883. What became of Henry's two young sons after he married Christina I do not know. Perhaps they were raised by another family member. I had never heard of these boys as living with Christina and Henry. "Henry Schelling learned the wood-working craft in Germany. That is how he became the maker of wooden wheels during the Civil War. When he moved to Peoria he went to work as a carpenter for Truedale Manufacturing Company and later became a cabinet-maker. He worked for thirteen years at Truesdales. He then worked at Wahfeld Wood Work Manufacturing Co. from 1896 until his death in 1904." )"The Schmidgall Story") Christina - "Christina Schauermann, born in Busch, Bavaria on 19 Mar 1845, married Godfried Schmidgalll in 1867, in Germany. Godfried worked for a railroad and was killed in a train accident in Holland. "Adam was about 12 years old when his father was killed. It was very difficult to be a young man in Germany in the 1880's. When a boy wanted to learn a trade, his father would pay a tuition for him to be an apprentice for four years. This was a very hard life working for a master. After four years he became a tradesman and then had to work two more years in other shops. After serving six years he was compelled to serve three years in the army. After this he was called a man! It was very difficult for a young man to leave Germany. "It was because of these conditions that Christine Schmidgall was determined to leave her homeland and come to America. She had to go from city to city. She was allowed to do so because she was a widow. She earned money as a seamstress. Finally she made it by night into Holland. From there she managed a ship ticket for her son and herself to London. On the first opportunity she boarded a steamer for the United States. They landed in Baltimore among strangers, but happy. It did not take long for her friends in Peoria to arrange their trip. "Christina met a man by the name of Henry Schelling in Peoria. They were married in Peoria October 23, 1883. Children with George Adam Schmidgall See Schmidgall family for children. Children with Henry Schelling i.  August Schmidgall was born Nov 1875 in Illinois. August - lived with his half-brother Adam at the time of the 1900 Census.
