John Rake, Sr. has sometimes been confused with John George Rake the son of Heinrich Casper Racke. . According to an email from Helen Poland dated July 9, 2003:

I have to disagree with your information on John Rake Sr. (which shows him descended from Heinrich Casper Racke). I have a court record that shows him in court in 1763/4 that would make him 11/12 years old, also John Rake Jr. was born 22 May 1768 that would make John Sr. 16 yrs old. I don't believe that John George Raike son of Heinrich Casper Racke is our John Rake.

On Tuesday morning last, the people in the neighbhorhood of Sergeantsville were thrown into great excitement by the report that two men had been found dead in the school house situated near the village. The facts are as follows: Joseph Sherman and Iser Rake, living in the vicinity of Locktown, and whose occupations were that of wood-choppers, started out on Monday morning to look at some pieces of timber with a view of working it out... Sherman leaves a wife and a grown up daughter, and Rake a wife and nine children. They were buried on Friday.
