Princess Elgiva was born about 0912 in England. She was the daughter of King Edward I "The Elder" of England and Queen Elfleda of England. She died in 0944 . King Edgar "The Peaceable" of England - was born about 0943 in Wessex, England and died on 8 Jul 0975 in Wessex, England . He was the son of King Edmund I "The Magnificient" of England and Princess Elgiva of England. King Edgar married Queen Elfrida of England in 0964 in Wessex, England. Queen Elfrida was born about 0947, lived in Devonshire, England. She died in 1000 . King Edgar - In AD 955, Edgar's uncle, King Edred, died and his elder brother, the fourteen year old Edwig, became King. However, when Edgar reached the same age two years later, the kingdom was divided and he was given the Northern regions of Mercia and Northumbria, while Edwig retained Wessex.   Though a good king, Edgar was not overly religious. His sexual appetite was legendary and gave rise to a number of stories. Soon after ascending the throne, he is said to have fallen for the beautiful daughter of a nobleman of Andover (Hampshire). While visiting the town, he demanded that she enter his bed that night. Her parents were, understandably, shocked and sent a maidservant to join the King in her place. After a long night of unbridled passion, Edgar was disappointed to find that his new conquest hurried from his bed early the next morning. The deception was thus revealed, as the girl explained that she must start work before the rest of the household arose. King Ethelred II "The Unready" of England - was born about 0968, lived in Wessex, England and died on 23 Apr 1016 in London, Middlesex. England . He was the son of King Edgar "The Peaceable" of England and Queen Elfrida of England. King Ethelred married Princess Emma de Normandie in 1002 while living in Normandy, France. Princess Emma was born about 0982, lived in Normandie. She was the daughter of Duke Richard I de Normandie and Gunnor de Crepon. She died on 6 Mar 1052 in Winchester, Hampshire, England .   Then King Ethelred married Queen Alfgifu of England about 0985 while living in Wessex, England. Queen Alfgifu was born about 0968, lived in Wessex, England. She is the daughter of Thorad Gunnarsson. King Ethelred - Born into the royal house of Wessex, which was at that time the effective ruler of all the Anglo-Saxons, Ethelred was a direct descendant of Alfred the Great and the son of King Edgar, who had ruled a united and peaceful England for 16 years. At Edgar's death in 975, the realm passed to Ethelred's brother Edward, who was still a child. The nobles of the kingdom formed rival parties around Edward and Ethelred, and the latter's supporters murdered Edward on March 18, 978, making Ethelred king. Edward was soon widely honored as a martyred saint, and devotion to him gave many an excuse to withhold allegiance from his successor. From the time of Ethelred's accession at the age of 9 or 10, his reign was tragically marred by the treason and revolt of his leading thegns (noblemen). The ensuing disorder was nourished by his own indecisive character and by the renewal of Danish raids on England in 980 after a pause of 25 years. Increasing Danish aggressiveness complemented the increasing English disunity and military ineffectiveness. In 991 Ethelred instituted a policy of buying off Danish raiders with lavish payments of silver. Given the inadequacy of English defenses, it was a strategically sound but psychologically demoralizing decision that mocked the heroic traditions of the Anglo-Saxons.   In the late 900's, during the reign of King Ethelred II, Danish attacks resumed. In 1016, Canute, a brother of the king of Denmark, became king of England. Canute, like Alfred, ruled as a wise and just king until his death in 1035. Two of Canute's sons followed him on the throne before the old Anglo-Saxon dynasty was restored. Elfgifu of England - was born about 0997, lived in Wessex, England. She is the daughter of King Ethelred II "The Unready" of England and Queen Alfgifu of England. Elfgifu married Earl Alfgar of Mercia. Earl Alfgar was born about 1002, lived in Mercia, England. He died in 1059 while living in Mercia, England .   Then Elfgifu married Ughtred Northumbria. Ughtred was born about 0971, lived in Northumbria, England. He died in 1016 . Children with Ughtred Northumbria i.  Princess Ealdgyth of Northumberland was born about 1020, lived in Northumberland, England. Princess Ealdgyth married Earl Maldred of Dunbar about 1036. Earl Maldred was born about 1015, lived in Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland. He died about 1045 .

King Edmund II "Ironside" of England - was born about 0988, lived in Wessex, England and died in 1016 in Ross-on-Wye . He was the son of King Ethelred II "The Unready" of England and Queen Alfgifu of England. King Edmund married Queen Ealdgyth of England about Aug 1015 while living in London, Middlesex, England. Queen Ealdgyth was born about 0986, lived in Wessex, England. She is the daughter of Morcar of England and Edgitha of England. King Edmund - Edmund was King of England for only a few months. After the death of his father, Æthelred II, in April 1016, Edmund led the defense of the city of London against the invading Knut Sveinsson (Canute), and was proclaimed king by the Londoners. Meanwhile, the Witan (Council), meeting at Southampton, chose Canute as King. After a series of inconclusive military engagements, in which Edmund performed brilliantly and earned the nickname "Ironside", he defeated the Danish forces at Oxford, Kent, but was routed by Canute's forces at Ashingdon, Essex. A subsequent peace agreement was made, with Edmund controlling Wessex and Canute controlling Mercia and Northumbria. It was also agreed that whoever survived the other would take control of the whole realm. Unfortunately for Edmund, he died in November, 1016, transferring the Kingship of All England completely to Canute.   Legend tells that Ross-on-Wye, England is the place where the Saxon king Edmund Ii died from traitors' wounds in 1016. Edmund is better known as Edmund 'Ironside', for his fierce defence of England against the huge invading army of the Danish king Canute. England was divided between the warring kings - Edmund held the west and Wessex while Canute ruled in the north and east. The story goes that one of Edmund's servants plotted to murder him for the reward that Canute might give. The servant secretly positioned a sharpened stake in the king's latrine at Minsterworth in Gloucestershire; as Edmund lowered himself to use his toilet, the servant withdrew the candle and Edmund was impaled. The king was rushed from Minsterworth but died at Ross, probably on his way to a monastery near by in search of a cure. The servant soon presented himself at canute's court and claimed the murder as his; Canute had him hanged, so legend tells, from the highest oak that he could find. Prince Edward "Atheling" of England - was born in 1016 in Wessex, England and died in 1057 in London, Middlesex, England . He was the son of King Edmund II "Ironside" of England and Queen Ealdgyth of England. Prince Edward married Princess Agatha Von Brunswick of England about 1035 while living in London, Middlesex, England. Princess Agatha was born about 1018 in Braunschweig, Prussia. She was the daughter of Count Ludolf of Brunswick and Countess Gertrud In Nordgau. She died on 13 Jul 1024 . Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  Queen Margaret of Scotland was born about 1042/1045, lived in Wessex, England and died on 16 Nov 1093 in Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Edinburgshire, Scotland . Queen Margaret married King Malcolm III "Ceanmor (Longneck)" of Scotland in 1067/1069 while living in Athoil, Perthshire, Scotland. King Malcolm was born about 1033, lived in Athoil, Perthshire, Scotland. He was the son of King Duncan I of Scotland and Sibyl Fitzsiward. He died on 13 Nov 1093 in Alnwick, Northumberlandshire, England . Queen Margaret - spent much of her time and money on works of charity, herself attending on the poor, the aged, the orphans and the sick. She supervised the making of vestments and fine things for the church. She was an admirable mother. She solved the problem facing the church in the Scotland of her day. Cut off by pagan invasion, the Celtic church had come to differ on points of procedure with Rome, and it was Margaret's personal achievement to reconcile the conflicting elements by bringing the Celtic church in Scotland back to conformity. This she did in such a way as to avoid schism or bitterness.   Similarly, her efforts to introduce European culture into Scotland were markedly successful. Whereas in England the Norman Conquest left a legacy of bitterness, the comparatively peaceful infusion of medieval culture into Scotland under Margaret and her sons was effected in such a manner as to bring a veritable golden age to Scotland, that lasted for two hundred years after Margaret's death. She died in Edinburgh Castle, and died, like so many saints, at a time when all that she had worked for seemed lost; her husband was killed in battle and rebel forces were attacking Edinburgh. But three of her sons succeeding to the throne in turn, their mother's work was reinforced and brought to fullness. See of Dunkeld family for children.
