Query from Virginia Perkins 3/9/00

I am searching for Philip Norwood, my gggg grandfather, of Fleming County, Ky with the hope of connecting him to his immigrant Norwood ancestor. He was born in 1755 and died in April of 1807. He was married to Nancy and they had two children, James Norwood who married Sarah and Elizabeth Norwood who married James Hood

Re: Nancy Norwood Stockton from Ron Hood 12/25/2002

Unfortunately my brick wall is there in Fleming County with both the Hood and Norwood families. What I know is: Phillip Norwood and wife Nancy (maiden name just might be Hood) had two children that my search group can find. They were James Norwood and Elizabeth. Now Elizabeth married one James Hood in Berkeley Co, VA abt 1796. James Norwood married Sarah Wilson in same place abt the same time. James and Sarah Norwood had many children including one Eliza who Married one James R. Hood in Fleming Co about 1839. This James was born Ohio. Many in my group think this James R to be son of old James Hood/Elizabeth Norwood--I do not. James Norwood is shown in wills as JR, two of his children show in the bible of "old James Hood" with middle names of Hood! From this I assume that perhaps Nancy Norwood passed her maiden name down to her son James and to two grandchildren, but I cant prove it! Brick Wall!

History of Christ Church

The southeast window, depicting Joseph and Mary, made up of reds, blues and yellows, was given by Mrs. George Norwood in memoriam of her daughter and husband in 1891. The northeast window was given by Mrs Mary Schofield in memory of Jacob and Nary. Its colors are various shades of yellows and greens. The church's two back windows were installed at the restoration of the church (1937). These follow very closely the theme of the northeast window.

The bell tower was added in the year 1889 of the stone from the home of John Flatman, built about 1850. This was made possible through the efforts of Rebecca J. Walker (later NcCartney). The stone mason was Frank Burlet, ably assisted by Dr. N. A. Johnston, both of Peoria.

The beams of cyprus and ceiling of oak were a gift of Nrs. George Norwood in the year 1892. The wood was imported from the State of Georgia. In the churchyard cemetery lie buried early settlers whose labors raised this beautiful little church and the ancient gravestones are also a source of interest to those historically minded. In one corner lie the headstones of the Benson and Clark families, both largely instrumental in founding the church, who later inter-married.
