Johannes Michel - was born in Germany and died in 1828 in Germany . Johannes married Catherine Nonkassar. Catherine was born in Germany. She died in 1828 in Germany . Johannes - - their family numbered six children; four sons and two daughters. He was a farmer by occupation and followed that pursuit throughout his entire life. Jacob Michel - was born on 12 Oct 1824 in Frankfort, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. He is the son of Johannes Michel and Catherine Nonkassar. Jacob married Louisa Krakow in 1852 in Dubuque, IA. Louisa was born in 1829/1830 in Mecklenberg, Ger. Jacob - (Michel is pronounced like "Mitchell")   Attended the public schools in Germany until his fouteenth year, when his father died, adn a week later his mother passed away. After the death of his parents he began learning the shoemakers trade, serving a three years' apprenticeship to the same in Offenbach.   After completing his term of service he travelled through sourthern Germany, and in France and Switzerland, working as a journeyman, but did not find a place which seemed to him ot offer the attractions and advantages whih were attributed to the New World.This led him to seek a home in the United Stated, and in 1847 he took passage on a westward bound sailing vessel, which a few weeks later dropped anchor in the harbor of New York.   He went at once to St. Louis, Mo., where he spent two years working at the showmaker's trade, and in 1850 he came to Dubuque, where he has since made his home. Chancellorsville, wnd. 6/22/64, Chattanooga, Tenn." in the Roster of the 26th Wisconsin Regiment. Perhaps the biography will tie this in to our Jacob. F. - moved to California. iv.  Henry Michel Henry - was a well known attorney in Dubuque. v.  Benjamin Michel was born in 1859/1860 in Iowa. Benjamin - was engaged in the practice of medicine. vi.  Jenny Michel was born in 1864/1865 in Iowa. vii.  Flora Michel was born on 18 May 1867 in Iowa and died May 1945 and was buried in Oakwoods Cemetery, 67th & Cottage Grove - Chicago, IL . Flora married John McDowell Young on 18 May 1888. John was born in 1858 in Scotland. He was the son of Robert Young and Jane McDowell. He died in 1903 and was buried in Oakwoods Cemetery, 67th & Cottage Grove - Chicago, IL . Flora - Flora was one of many children from the Dubuque, Iowa area. Her father, a shoe salesman and later a shoe store owner, was apparently from the Alsace-Lorraine region. Even though the name appears to be of French origin, he considered himself to be from Germany and pronounced the name "Mitchell". Census: 1910 Chicago, Ill 440 No. Normal Parkway Flora M.
