He was the son of John Loomis and Agnes Lingwood.
Joseph married Mary White on 30 Jun 1614 in Messing, Essex, England. Mary was born on 4 Aug 1590 in Shalford, Essex, England. She was the daughter of Robert White and Bridget Allgar. She died on 23 Nov 1652 in Windsor, CT . Mary - Presidents who share this same White ancestry include Grover Cleveland, Ulysses S. Grant, and Millard Fillmore. Joseph - was a woolen-draper. Several sources say he sailed from London, England 11 April 1638, on the ship "Susan and Ellen," arriving in Boston, Mass. 17 July 1638. Other sources claim he probably came to Windsor in the summer or autumn of 1639 in company with Rev. Ephraim Huet, who arrived at Windsor, Aug. 17, 1639. Records indicate he stayed about a year in Dorchester, Mass. Town records of Windsor, Conn. show that on 2 Feb. 1640, he was granted 21 acres from the Plantation adjoining Farmington River on the west side of the Conn. River. This acreage included the site of the first English settlement made in Conn. Also there were several large tracts of land on the east side of the Conn., partly from the town and partly purchased. His house was near the mouth of the Farmington River on "The Island." That area was called "the Island" because when raining, the Connecticut River overflowed, causing it to temporarily become an island. Joseph and Mary had 8 children, all born in England, and came to America with them. Their five sons were freeman--believed to mean those who enjoy political liberty

Deacon John married Elizabeth Scott on 3 Feb 1648/1649. Elizabeth was born about 1625. She was the daughter of Thomas Scott. She died on 7 May 1696 in Windsor, CT . Deacon John - was accepted in the Windsor Church 11 Oct. 1640. Granted forty acres of land from the Plantation on 3 May 1643, lived in Farmington, Conn. 1652 to 1660, returned to Windsor, Conn., was Deacon of the Church. His monument still stands in Windsor Burying Ground, will is in the Probate office at Hartford, Conn. name is signed "John Loomys."

Sarah - widow ofIsaac Warner. John - His first wife's name is unknown as "History of Ancient Windsor Vol. 2" and "Descendants of Joseph Loomis in America" show her name as a blank. He had 9 children with her.
