Hello, I saw your information on the Heinz family on the Internet and thought you might like a small bit of information about H. J.’s parents. Johann Heinrich Heinz and his wife Anna Margaretha Schmidt are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, O’Hara Township, PA. This is just north of Pittsburgh and in the hills above the town of Sharpsburg. Henry, as he was known, died in Philadelphia. The couple is buried in Section 4 of the cemetery, their lot being one quarter of a circle of burial plots at the highest point of the cemetery property.

With them is buried: Jacob J., son and 8th child of the couple

Raymond H., child of son John

Edward E., child of son John

Maria Chessman Heinz, wife of John Heinz

John H. Heinz, son and 3rd child of the couple

Harry W., child of John

Ivan T., child of John

Their daughter Margaret, who married George H. Prager, is buried nearby in the Prager lot. A nephew, Frederick Heinz and his wife were once buried in the plot, but were removed to Mt. Royal Cemetery in 1929. My grandmother witnessed the removal. Frederick’s house in Sharpsburg is the only Heinz house still standing in the town. Frederick was the son of Johann Heinrich Heinz’s older brother Georg.

My family is related through Johann Heinrich Heinz’s younger sister, Anna Maria, who never left Germany, but continued to live in Kallstadt. She married Johann Peter Schuster, who died young. Their son, Georg Nikolaus Schuster came to America with his children. His daughter Catharina, was my great-grandmother.

I have the information about Greenwood Cemetery because I am a stockholder and on the Board of Managers, and I am the cemetery’s historian. I have lived near Sharpsburg most of my life.

I hope this gives you some needed information. If I can be of any service, let me know.
