John Dixon - was born on 16 Dec 1788 in Virginia and died on 24 Aug 1851 in Preble Co, Ohio and was buried in Abondoned cemetery on Devil's Backbone Road, Camden, Preble Co., Ohio . John married Mary "Polly" Skinner on 22 Dec 1815 in Preble Co, Ohio. Mary was born about 1790. Mary - email from researcher Nov 2005   Hello Mr. Hart, I'm Darwin Davis, interested in the Skinner family in Preble Co., OH. Specifically, I read that Mary "Polly" Skinner, matriarch of this Dixon clan and first wife of John Dixon, had a brother, Benjamin Skinner, who was a Baptist minister in the area at the time. I'm interested in knowing if you know anything about the background of this Skinner family, who apparently came to OH from NC. My own ancestor, Joshua Skinner (b. NC 1801) may well have been a younger brother of Mary "Polly" Skinner, or a nephew. He married Cordelia Carter from Preble Co., and they named their second son Miles Dixon Skinner. Benjamin Skinner married (as minister) a brother of Cordelia Carter Skinner, so I know they all were around the same area in Preble Co.1810-1830 (and later Butler Co.). Please let me know if you have any information on the Skinner family, or can refer me to any Preble Co. OH sources who might help me. I would be ever so grateful. Stuart" No, I do not know of a picture of John Wesley Dixon or his brother, George Milton Dixon. William D. Dixon's middle name according to my grandfather, Paul R. Dixon, was Demoss. For William D. Dixon's parents, I did not have the C. in John C. Dixon and all I had for Mary Skinner was Polly Skinner. John Dixon was married three times. It is his third wife that is buried at Elmwood Cemetery. Polly Skinner d. c.1829, probably in Preble Co, OH as John married second on 14 Sept 1830.I know of four children for John and Polly (Mary) Dixon: William D. Dixon, Miles S. Dixon, James Clay "Squire" Dixon and George W. Dixon. There were probably more children. A John Dixon and a Samuel Dixon arepossibly two of their children. He also had children by his other two wives.   John Dixon was b. in VA, 16 Dec 1788, and died in Preble County, OH, 24 Aug 1851. I have this week been "chasing" Samuel:   1852 marries Hannah Franklin Burden in Peoria Co IL 1860 in Peoria Co IL 1870 in Adams Co IL 1880 in Riley Co KS while his wife Hannah F. is (not too far away) in Jefferson Co NE.   It is their daughter Almeda in whom I am interested. She married James Wood, an Englishman probably in KS or NE. In 1880 she and James are in Davis Co KS (which in 1888 became Geary Co KS), in 1886 she married Hugh McElroy in Gregg Co TX and in 1900 she is in Greene Co AR. James Clay Dixon - was born on 22 Dec 1822 in Virginia and died on 17 Feb 1851 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery . He was the son of John Dixon and Mary "Polly" Skinner. James married Mary Ann Pugh on 10 Aug 1843 in Eaton (Preble Co.), Ohio. Mary was born on 8 Oct 1824 in Butler Co, Ohio. She was the daughter of Mr. Pugh. She died on 27 Jun 1910 and was buried in Elmwood, Ill. . Mary - moved to Elmwood, Ill in 1889 with her second husband, Charles.   There were a William and Lucy PUGH in Preble Co. Ohio, who had 9 children, including John , Alexander and Sherwood, but we haven't tied Mary Ann back to them yet. James - gave his first name as Squire on Wedding License and Tombstone. Was a farmer, living next to Robert Marshall, in Peoria Co., Ill in 1850.   Buried in DIXON family plot in Elmwood Cmty. Mary Ann is also buried near this plot, alongside her second husband (Charles B. MOREY)   This DIXON plot also contains William D. Dixon, his wife Leticia and their children John W. Dixon, Miles H. In the 1880 Census, Frank Morris reported that his wife's father was born in South Carolina. Caroline married William R. Parsell in 1867. William was born on 15 Mar 1841 in Illinois. He died on 18 Dec 1889 in Elmwood, Ill and was buried in Elmwood, Cemetery . William - Lived on a farm in Yates City, Ill. Served for 8 mos in the Ill. Volunteer Infantry. He was the son of Joseph Parsell born about 1801 in Ohio. Emeline Dixon - was born on 15 Sep 1843 in Camden, Ohio and died on 1 Dec 1932 in Peoria, Ill. and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Elmwood Ill. . She was the daughter of James Clay Dixon and Mary Ann Pugh. Emeline married Rutledge Thorton Hoffman on 6 Dec 1864 in Peoria, Ill.. Rutledge was born on 1 Oct 1830 in Doyleston, Penn. He was the son of Emanuel Little Hoffman and Amy Fulper Rake. He died on 30 Jan 1916 in St. Louis, Mo and was buried in St. Matthews Cmty. . Rutledge - Left his wife Emelyne in 1875 to head west. Wrote newspaper stories for Eaton, Ohio Register from a retirement home in St. Louis Mo. Moved with his parents to Dixon Township, Eaton Ohio in 1833.   In 1880, Rutledge Hoffman is shown living with John and Naomi Hubbell. (Rutledge is also listed as a boarder with James M. Parks. William Harrison Dixon - was born on 25 Jun 1847 in Ohio and died on 8 May 1942 in Los Angeles, CA and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Elmwood Ill. . He was the son of James Clay Dixon and Mary Ann Pugh. William married Laura A. Marshall on 3 Oct 1872 in Peoria, Ill.. Laura was born on 5 Jan 1848 in Ohio. She was the daughter of Robert Ritchie Marshall and Celelicia A. Hunt. She died on 4 Aug 1899 in Elmwood, Ill and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Elmwood Ill. . Laura - Her brother F.S. Marshall wrote a memorial to her in 1899. Lived with her parents in Brimstone Twp, Peoria Co., Ill in 1860., right next to the farm of Charles Morey where her future husband was living.   Then William married Annabelle Bailey on 24 Jul 1912. Annabelle was born in 1859. She died on 4 Sep 1930 . William - served in Co. F, 148th Regt. Effie Helen Morris - was born on 27 Dec 1878 and died on 15 Nov 1965 . She was the daughter of Frank E. Morris and Emeline Dixon. Effie married Charles Adrian Woodward on 27 Dec 1899. Charles was born on 19 Jan 1877. He died on 29 Apr 1945 . Children: i.  Theron Garnette Woodward was born on 12 Nov 1903. Theron married Delta Winona Munson on 4 Jan 1933. Delta was born on 16 Apr 1906.

Nellie Morris - was born on 12 Sep 1885. She is the daughter of Frank E. Morris and Emeline Dixon. Nellie married Fred Sherman. Fred - email from Roseann (Sherman) May - jan 26, 2003   Hi my name is Roseann (Sherman) May I am the niece of Donald , Hubert and Madelyn. My fathers name was Marshall, he was from Freds second marriage . I know Madelyn died after a fall down some stairs while she was pregant with her son Lester Dilkey Jr., her husband's aunt raised him. Jr. contacted the family when he was in the air force when I was a kid. I remember him and his aunt. I would sure like to hear from him. I don't know much about Donald . he was the black sheep I guess. I have a picture of him taken a Palastides Park NY in his bathing suit in 1927. I sure would like to know more about him.   Hubert had two children Nellie Marie , and Hubert Leon. My dear cousin Nelly has passed on March 6, 2000 , date of birth was March 8, 1936. Hubert Jr or Sonny as we call him lives in Pontiac, Ill. He was born on May 9, 1 937. I have been trying to find some history on our family, but it was difficult not knowing where or when grandpa was born . Hubert T. Dixon - was born on 6 Sep 1900 and died on 6 Jul 1967 . He was the son of Harrison Robert Dixon and Mary Ellen Lea. Hubert married Leora Lillian Leggate on 9 Jun 1924. Leora was born on 8 Dec 1901. She died on 18 May 1973 . Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  William John Dixon was born on 16 Feb 1927 and died about 1979 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery .
