Isaac Comnenus - was born about 1025 in Constantinople, Turkey and died in 1061 in Turkey . Isaac - Byzantine emperor (1057–59), first of the Comneni dynasty. Proclaimed emperor by the army, he deposed Michael VI, who had succeeded Theodora (reigned 1055–56), and sent him into a monastery. Although at first received with enthusiasm at Constantinople, Isaac soon lost popularity with the aristocracy and, because of his confiscation of ecclesiastic property, with the church and the patriarch Cerularius, who was exiled. In 1059, after an unsuccessful campaign against the Pechenegs, Isaac abdicated for reasons of health and retired to a monastery. email from Brian O'Neel November 2009   I recently came upon the Spanish line detailed by you and others descending from Isaac Comnenos. I think this line may be fictitious, and here is why:   Isaac was reputed to have two kids, neither of whom was named Pedro. Furthermore, there is no indication that the man had a mistress, especially a Spanish one, and there is no name given. Typically, historical documents will mention illegitimate children. Isaac has none mentioned.   Secondly, the people mentioned in this line have noble titles attached to their names, "Don" and such. And yet there is no mention of them in Spanish sources other than recapitulations of the genealogical line listed on various websites. You would think there would be at least one person of some historical consequence besides Sancha Boulton's father. Finally, what explanation might there be for an English knight of no great standing having a Spanish wife?   I don't mean to be contrarian, please don't misunderstand. But it would be a shame to waste time filling our family tree files with information that is not accurate or at least has some establishment in fact. It strains, it seems to me, just like trying to match the Merovingian or Carolingian lines back to Roman antiquity.
