He was the son of Pierre Clamme and Elizabeth Spyre. John married Bessie E. Groves on 25 Jan 1902. Bessie was born on 22 Oct 1879 in Blackford Co., in. She was the daughter of Aaron Groves and Samantha Turner. She died on 8 Sep 1935 in Blackford Co., in and was buried in Ioof Cemetary, Hartford City, Indiana . Bessie - Some of the information on Bessie Groves and John Henry Clamme was provided by William E. Groves, PhD, CDP. He, like James M. Smith, are descended from Bessie Groves, James from the Clammes and William from the Groves line. (ADH) "Bessie (Groves) Clamme's daughter Rosemary relates that Bessie died from "bloating." Her husband John had just returned home from the Indiana State Fair and brought a very large prize winning water melon which he had been given by on of the exhibitors at the fair. Rosemary shared part of it and then had to leave to go to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she was to begin classes at Indiana Business College. She had just arrived there when she received a call to return home immediately. Apparently stomach gas had developed from eating so much of the melon. CLAMME.   In business affairs probably no citizen of Jackson township has more extended relations with the community than Charles Clamme, who is known as a farmer and stock raiser, a shipper, and a contractor in road building. He belongs to one of the well known families of the county, and several of his brothers are associated with him in the contracting business.   Charles J. Clamme was born in Washington township of Blackford county, March 18, 1878, and is still a young man for all the success that he has won. His parents are Pierre and Elizabeth (Spyre) Clamme, both well known residents of Jackson township. His mother was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the father in Germany, emigrating to America, and after landing at New York city found his way to Blackford county, Indiana, in 1867.   There are eight children in the family named as follows: John, a former sheriff of Blackford county and noted as a successful raiser of fine stock, Shorthorn cattle and Poland China hogs; Charles J.; Catherine, who is the wife of A. W. Stoll of Jackson township; Albert, of Jackson township, a contractor and a stock feeder; Perry W., a farmer and contractor in Jackson township; Harry, also in the contract business and a farmer; Lewis, a Jackson township farmer; and Anna, unmarried and living with her parents.   The sons Charles J. Albert, Perry W. and Harry carry on an extensive business as contractors under the name of Clamme Brothers, and have united their interests in the construction of roads and the furnishing of material, and also in the shipping of live stock. The active business manager of the Clamme Brothers enterprise is Charles J.   Reared in Washington and Jackson townships, with an education acquired in the local schools, Charles J. Clamme has spent nearly all his life in Blackford county but for two years was in the state of Tennessee. The old home sheltered him until he was twenty-three, but from the time he attained his majority he has been actively identified with farming. Later he took up the contracting business in furnishing gravel and stone materials for the construction of improved roads, and has also been particularly successful in the buying and shipping of live stock. Mr. Clamme owns a fine farm of two hundred and eighty-six acres in Jackson and Harrison townships, and practically all that estate represents his individual enterprise and management. On his farm he feeds from one to two carloads of cattle every year, and raises most of the feed stuffs to fatten his stock for market.   On December 24, 1901, Mr. Clamme married Arminda Empsweiller, who was born in Jackson township. They are the parents of four children: Charles J. P., born September 23, 1902; Harold H., born May 19, 1904; Minnie E., born December 30, 1906; and Edna H. born June 5, 1909. The family worship in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Hartford City, and Mr. Clamme is one of the active members of the Farmers Club. Helen - Helen I. Clamme, 90 - HARTFORD CITY   Helen Irene Clamme, age 90, of Hartford City, died at her residence on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at 8:23 a.m. Helen was born Oct. 30, 1912, to Alfred and Ethel Mae (Hawk) Sills in Montpelier. Helen married Charles J.P. Clamme Jr. on June 6, 1935, in Blackford County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on Dec. 7, 1986; her father, Alfred Sills, in 1953; her mother, Ethel Sills, in 1980; and her two brothers, Hugh Sills and Claude Sills. Helen was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. She was an avid fishermen. She attended Roll High School. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Muncie. Helen is survived by three sons, Richard A. Clamme (wife: Vicki J.) of Hartford City, Gary Lee Clamme (wife: Carol) of Hartford City and Charles F. Cain (wife: Joy Nell) of West Covina, Calif. She is also survived by six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Helen will be on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City, Ind., with the Rev. Kevin A. Karner of the Grace Lutheran Church of Muncie officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. He was the son of Pierre Clamme and Elizabeth Spyre. Albert married Anna Price on 1 Mar 1908 in Blackford Co., in. Anna was born on 27 Jun 1887. Albert - Charles J., Albert, Perry W., and Harry worked together as Clamme Brothers in the construction of roads, furnishing of materials, and shipping of live stock. ALBERT CLAMME   A member of the prominent firm of Clamme Brothers, whose business as contractors, especially in the building of roads, hint brought them connections all over this section of Indiana, Albert Clamme is also well known as a Jackson township farmer, and is proprietor of the Lick Creek Stock Farm. This farm, consisting of one hundred and sixty acres, lies three miles east of Hartford City and has received the special attention and management of Mr. Clamme for a number of years. He is a practical business man. understands farming in all its details is an excellent judge of livestock, and has combined the raising of the staple crops with the breeding and feeding of cattle and hogs.   One of the younger members of a family that has long been prominent in Blackford county, Albert Clamme was born in Harrison township of this county, February 10, 1881. His parents were Pierre and Elizabeth (Kagel) Clamme. Both parents are now living in Jackson township. His father was a native of Germany, immigrated after getting his education and his early training when about thirty years of age to this country, and after reaching Blackford county married Miss Kagel, who was born in West Virginia. They were the parents of eight children, and among these are the sons who form the firm of Clamme Brothers, contractors and stock dealers, consisting of Charles, Albert, Perry W. and Harry.   Albert Clamme grew up in Harrison township, was educated in the common schools, and for some years has been actively identified with the business of contracting conducted in association with his other brothers, and is also the independent proprietor of one of the. best stock farms in this section. On March 1, 1908, he married Annie Price, who was born in Jackson township. They are the parents of three children: Margaret, Ruth and Paul. Willman of Ada, Mich.; a sister, Elsie Love of Hartford City; and two grandchildren.   Services at 11 a.m. Friday at Waters Funeral Home, Hartford City, with calling two hours before services. Rowland Harry Clamme - was born on 10 Jan 1907 in Hartford City, Blackford Co., Indiana and died on 4 Apr 1959 in Danville, Ill and was buried in Remington, Indiana . He was the son of John Henry Clamme and Bessie E. Groves. Rowland married Martha Sue Lambert on 6 Aug 1938 in West Milton, Oh. Martha was born on 26 Aug 1910 in Remington, in. Martha - Martha Sue Clamme   REMINGTON -- Martha Sue (Lambert) Clamme, 94, 1903 Union St., Lafayette, died 4 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette. Born Aug. 26, 1910, she was a daughter of Homer and Elnora Lambert. On Aug. 6, 1938, in Ohio, she married Rowland H. Clamme and he preceded her in death April 4, 1959.   She graduated from Remington High School in 1928 and moved to Lafayette from South Bend in 1948. She worked at the Purdue Bursars Office for 17 years, retiring in 1976. She also worked at the license branch until 2001.   She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where she was also an elder and a trustee. She was a member of Chapter L of PEO and Order of Eastern Star.   She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn S. and husband Paul Pecen, Kokomo; two grandchildren, Becky and husband Brad Fields, Fishers, and Michael Pecen, San Antonio, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Alec Fields, Fishers. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.   Graveside services are noon Monday at Remington Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Eimer officiating. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Soller Baker Funeral Homes, Inc., Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 31 N. 7th St., Lafayette, IN 47904, or to a charity of the donor's choice Rowland - was a salesman for Standard Oil Company. John - was a farmer in Blackford County, Indiana.   He had a stroke while he and his family were visiting with his brother and family in Lafayette, Indiana. They were out for a Sunday drive when he had a stroke while driving. Was taken to Home Hospital where he later died. Donna - Donna Clamme-Reagan, 52   HARTFORD CITY - Donna Marie Clamme - Reagan, 52, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 1:00 a.m. at her residence in Hartford City. Her death was unexpected. She had lived all her life in Blackford and Jay Counties.   Donna was born on November 28, 1953 in Hartford City to Lawrence F. Clamme and Vera M. (Hiser) Clamme. Her father died in 1986. Her mother lives in Hartford City.   Donna graduated from Blackford County High School in 1972 and from Ivy Tech College in 1992 with an Associate Degree. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church Missouri Senate in Hartford City. She was a member of the Jay Co. Cancer Society. Donna loved spending time with grand kids and family. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, woodworking and she loved to cook. She was a former Blackford Co. 10 year member of 4-H. Donna will be sadly missed by her son Josh A. (Wife-Holly C.) Stinson of Hartford City; her daughter Jenni M. (Husband-Tyson V.) Keever of Farmland; her mother Vera M. (Hiser) Clamme of Hartford City; 5 grandchildren: Shelby Stinson, Tori Stinson, Kylie Stinson, E'eaughna Keever, Cortlan Gentry; brother Allen C. (Wife-Rhonda Sue) Clamme; sister Karen R. Clamme, 2 nieces Amanda J. Clamme, Sara L. Clamme and nephew A.J. Clamme all of Hartford City.   The Funeral Service will be Monday, January 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Keplinger Funeral Home 509 N. High St., Hartford City with Rev. Ralph G. Schmidt and Sem. Manuel M. Soto Officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Eaton.   Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29, 2006 from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. and on Monday, January 30, 2006 from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.   Memorials may be made to the Jay County Cancer Fund or Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church Missouri Senate C/O Keplinger Funeral Home.
