Walter Bassett - was born about 1575 in Sandwich, Kent, England and died on 5 Apr 1667 in Bridgewater, MA . Walter married Cecelia Lecht. Cecelia was born about 1560. She died about 1606 in Sandwich, Kent, England . Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  William Bassett I was born on 21 Oct 1600 in Bethnal Green, England and died in 1667 in Bridgewater, Mass. . William Bassett I - was born on 21 Oct 1600 in Bethnal Green, England and died in 1667 in Bridgewater, Mass. . He was the son of Walter Bassett and Cecelia Lecht. William married Elizabeth (Mary) Tilden in 1622. Elizabeth was born about 1603 in Tenterden, Kent, England. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Tilden and Lydia "Lucy" Huckstep. She died about 1667 . Elizabeth - came to New England on the "Fortune" in 1621. William - occupation: gunsmith / worker in metals - came over on the ship Fortune in 1621 - settled first in Plymouth, then in Duxbury and finally in Bridgewater, Mass. - of which town he was an original proprietor.   He was a large landowner - with only four in Plymouth paying a higher tax in 1633. He had a large library of books. His name is on the earliest list of freemen in 1633. He was a volunteer for the Pequod War in 1637 and on the committee to lay out the town of Duxbury. Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  Deacon William Bassett II was born in 1624 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 16 Aug 1670 in Sandwich, MA . See #3. below. ii.  Elizabeth Bassett was born about 1626 in Plymouth, Mass.. Elizabeth - married Thomas Burgess, Jr. of Sandwich in 1648 - was divorced June 10, 1661. - He moved to Rhode Island an married a Lydia. iii.  Nathaniel Bassett was born in 1628 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 16 Jan 1709/1710 . Nathaniel - married 1) Mary or Dorcas Joyce a daughter of John Joyce of Yarmouth. 2) a Hannah in 1709. He had 9 children   On the 2nd of March, 1651/2, Nathaniell Bassett and Joseph Prior, for disturbing the church of Duxburron on the Lord's day, were sentenced each of them to pay a fine of twenty shillings or to be bound to a post for the space of two hours, in some public place, with a paper on their heads on which their capitol crime would be written. iv.  Sarah Bassett was born about 1630 in Plymouth, Mass.. Sarah - married Peregrine White in 1648. Peregrine was the first born of the English at Cape Cod Harbor in Nov 1620. v.  Ruth Bassett Ruth - married John Spraque in 1655. vi.  Jane Bassett vii.  Joseph Bassett died in 1712 in Bridgewater, Mass. . Joseph - settled with his father in Bridgewater - married Martha Hobart in 1677.

Deacon William Bassett II - was born in 1624 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 16 Aug 1670 in Sandwich, MA . He was the son of William Bassett I and Elizabeth (Mary) Tilden. Deacon William married Mary Rainsford in 1652. Mary was born on 1 Jun 1632 in Boston, Mass.. She was the daughter of Deacon Edward Rainsford. She died on 12 Apr 1694 in Sandwich, Barnstable, Mass. . Deacon William - occupation: yeoman/innkeeper - lived in Boston in 1630. Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  Mary Bassett was born on 21 Nov 1654 in Sandwich, Barnstable, Mass and died about 1682 . Mary - married John Redding 22 Aug. 1676 ii.  Colonel William Bassett III was born in 1656 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 29 Sep 1721 in Sandwich, Mass. . See #4. below. iii.  Nathan Bassett was born in 1657 and died before 29 Jan 1743 . Nathan - married Mary Huckins (moved to Chilmark,MA). iv.  Sarah Bassett was born in 1662 and died in 1690 . Sarah - married Thomas Lewis of Falmouth.

Colonel William Bassett III - was born in 1656 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 29 Sep 1721 in Sandwich, Mass. . He was the son of Deacon William Bassett II and Mary Rainsford. Colonel William married Rachel Williston on 9 Oct 1675. Rachel was born about 1655 in Tauton, MA. She was the daughter of Thomas Williston. She died in 1682 . Colonel William - was Marshall of Plymouth Colony at the time of the Union with Mass. and a judge of the Inferior Court in 1710. He was an excellent penman, and wrote in a very small, yet distinct and beautiful hand. Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  Mary Bassett was born on 20 Oct 1676. Mary married Nathan Bourne in 1697/1698. Nathan was born on 31 Aug 1676 in Sandwich, Mass.. He was the son of Elisha Bourne and Patience Skiffe. He died in 1749 in Sandwich, Mass . See Bourne family for children. ii.  Nathan Bassett was born in 1677. Nathan - married Mary Huckins - 1690 - and moved to Chilmark where they had 11 children. - His son Nathan graduated from Harvard in 1719. Mary was the of John Huckins of Barnstable and was brought up in the family of Elder John Chipman iii.  Rachel Bassett was born on 25 Oct 1679. iv.  William Bassett IV was born in 1681 in Sandwich, MA and died about 1732 . See #5. below. v.  Jonathan (1) Bassett was born in 1682 in Sandwich, MA and died on 13 Dec 1683 in Sandwich, MA . vi.  Jonathan Bassett was born on 31 Dec 1683 and died about 1710 . Jonathan - married a Mary and had one son, Jonathan.

William Bassett IV - was born in 1681 in Sandwich, MA and died about 1732 . He was the son of Colonel William Bassett III and Rachel Williston. William married Abigail Bourne on 3 Feb 1708/1709 in Sandwich, Mass. Abigail was born on 22 Jul 1684 in Sandwich, Mass.. She was the daughter of Elisha Bourne and Patience Skiffe. She died Jan 1764 in Sandwich, Mass. . Children: (Quick Family Chart) i.  Mary Bassett was born on 24 Dec 1709. Mary - married Eliakim Tupper, Jr. in 1734. ii.  William Bassett V was born on 23 Nov 1711 and died on 14 Feb 1791 in Rochester, Mass. . William - married Lydia Smith in 1734. iii.  Elisha Bassett was born on 15 Feb 1713/1714. Elisha - married Ruhama Jennings in 1739 - moved to Yarmouth. He was captain in the Provincial Militia. He was a zealous Whig. iv.  Nathan (1) Bassett was born on 21 Aug 1715 in Sandwich, Mass.. v.  John Bassett was born on 11 Apr 1716. John - married Mercy Newcomb in 1742. vi.  Thomas Bassett was born on 4 Oct 1717/1718 and died May 1809 . Thomas - married (1) Patience Tobey 1746, (2) Hannah Jennings 1775 vii.  Nathaniel Bassett was born on 15 Oct 1719 and died in 1814 . Nathaniel - married Hannah Hall in 1745. viii.  Jonathan Bassett was born on 6 May 1721. Jonathan - married Mary Freeman in 1748. ix.  Abigail Bassett was born on 10 Mar 1722/1723. Abigail - married Eliakim Tobey in 1740. x.  Elizabeth Bassett was born on 28 Mar 1724/1725. xi.  Nathan Bassett was born on 17 Dec 1727/1728 and died in 1728 . xii.  Hannah Bassett was born on 18 Dec 1730. Hannah married Isaac Smith on 23 Jan 1752 in Sandwich, Mass.. Isaac was born on 14 Nov 1727. He is the son of Shubael Smith and Mary Chipman. See Smith family for children.
